Shockingly Low Calorie Foods

It’s been said that the most delicious foods are those which are not good for the body. Pizzas, pastas, and pastries are just a few examples of that. They’re often in the limelight since most nutritionists would recommend eating them in moderation. For this post, I’d like to dwell on the other end of the spectrum and feature some shockingly low calorie foods which you can consume without worry.

Dubbed as the ultimate low calorie food, celery stick contains only around 5 calories per stem. And that’s not all the good thing it provides. Despite its unassuming look, it also contains a whole lot of nutrients. It is also believed that celery sticks contain phytochemicals called as thalides can relax muscle tissue hereby increasing blood flow and preventing low blood pressure.

Green Tea

Another superfood, green tea contains significant amounts of an antioxidant called ECGC which is proven to boost weight loss. This antioxidant can also prevent most types of cancer and tumors from metastasizing.  Most dieticians believe that drinking a cup of green tea everyday can help you lose 3 calories in a year without doing anything.

Spinach is such a low calorie snack that you would have to consume 15 cups of it to get 100 calories. Even by then, you probably have eaten less calories with all the chewing you have made. To  top that, spinach has lots of vitamin k, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc and even selenium. Rutgers University recently uncovered a study which says that spinach has a hormone that boosts muscle regeneration.

Kiwi

One serving of kiwi approximately 76 grams contains only 46 calories which is a lot healthier as compare to eating pastries of the same size. Kiwis are actually berries and just like other berries, they have fiber, potassium, vitamins C, E, and K. If you’re wondering whether you should the eat the skin as well, go for it if you want to receive maximum health benefits.

Mushrooms in general contain only 2 calories each piece. Yes, you haven’t read that right. Each mushroom piece contains 2 calories on average so that means that you could eat a lot of it without ruining your diet. If you don’t think that mushrooms are a good afternoon snack, use mushrooms as an alternative to red meat on some of your meals. For example, you can dice it up and use it for a mushroom burger which is what I normally do. You could also experiment and use diced mushroom as an alternative to ground beef on spaghetti sauce.

Scallops

A popular option for those who are hoping to lose weight, scallops has far less calories than other protein choices. In addition, they have cancer fighting B12 and selenium. Moreover, scallops are relatively easy to cook and pair with sauces.
